Rum Punch

A must-know recipe when cruising the Caribbean!

Ingredients

  • 50ml rum
  • 50ml orange juice
  • 50ml pineapple juice
  • 25ml cranberry or guava juice (optional)
  • 5-10ml grenadine

Garnish

  • freshly grated cinnamon or nutmeg
  • maraschino cherry

Method

This drink is shaken and poured into a highball glass.

Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass, add ice and shake vigorously. Strain contents into a highball glass, pre-filled with ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and grate some cinnamon or nutmeg on top.

This is also my  favourite “barbecue/go-to-fish-bowl” drink. It goes as follows: in a large cooler or punch/fish bowl, mix 1 part of rum to 1 part of orange juice and 1 part of pineapple juice (ie a bottle of each), add a good measure of grenadine and some cinnamon sticks. You can let this mixture sit out during your party with an ice bucket next to it. People can then easily top up their glasses with ice and rum punch.

Fun guaranteed! (And maybe a hangover here and there…)
